Easy Baking Powder Biscuit Recipe
Whether it is biscuits and gravy, or a simple quick bread for a side with a soup, these biscuits are my go-to when I don’t have a lot of time. They are simple, flaky, and delicious! These biscuits are also one of the first recipes that I have my new middle school cooks make in class. They are that easy to make!
Ingredients:
2 cups unbleached, all-purpose flour
1 Tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup milk
Extra flour for dusting the countertop
Step One:
After gathering your ingredients, preheat the oven to 375* F.
Step Two:
In a large mixing bowl, mix together the 2 cups flour, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1 Tablespoon baking powder.
Step Three:
Using a pastry cutter, cut in the softened butter. The butter should be cut up into the flour into small (think Kix cereal sized) pieces.
Step Four:
Add 3/4 cup milk and mix well. You should have a nice dough right now.
Step Five:
Sprinkle the flour evenly onto a clean countertop. Place the dough on top of the sprinkled flour. Gently roll the dough out using a rolling pin. The dough should NOT be rolled any thinner than 1/2″ in thickness. Too thin and the biscuits become more cracker-like in consistency. I use the top joint of my finger as a depth guide. The distance from the tip of my finger to the first joint is about 1/2″.
Step Six:
Using a biscuit cutter or the open edge of a glass, cut out the biscuits and place them on a prepared baking sheet (I like to line mine with parchment paper – or I use my stoneware baking sheet). Place the biscuits about 2″ apart on the baking sheet.
Step Seven:
Bake the biscuits in the 375* oven for 18-20 minutes.
Step Eight:
After the biscuits are golden brown, remove them from the oven. Cool, or carefully enjoy immediately!
Pretty, simple and super yummy! I hope you enjoy these easy-to-make baking powder biscuits! Anyone can make these and they take no time at all. A true quick bread!
