Crochet Scrunchie Hope Corner Farm

It seems as if the 90s are back in full force! Many young people are rocking scrunchies again. With that in mind, I decided to come up with a quick and easy crochet scrunchie pattern. What I have noticed is that when I am working on these, I have people ask if I can make them one all of the time! I keep really busy making these…hopefully you will too!

I am including a photo tutorial for a Crocheted Scrunchie. This version of a scrunchie gives a more unique look to the popular hair accessory. Keep checking back and I will have a video tutorial for this as well!

Supplies Needed:

-yarn (I usually use a worsted weight yarn)
-H (5.0 mm) hook
-Elastic hair tie
-Yarn needle

Terms Used:

-SC = single crochet
-DC = double crochet
-FPDC = front post double crochet
-BPDC =back post double crochet
-SL ST = slip stitch

Row 1: Place as many SCs onto the hair tie as possible. Squish the SCs together to fit more. Join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet.

Row 2: Chain 2. Place 3 DCs into each single crochet from the previous round.

Row 3: Chain 2. Front Post Double Crochet onto the first DC from the previous round. Back Post Double Crochet onto the next DC. Alternate FPDC and BPDC the entire way around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the first FPDC. Fasten off. Weave in tails. Enjoy!

Photo Tutorial Directions – Row 1:

To begin, make a slip knot on your hook.

Next, place the yarn inside of the hair tie (see attached picture).

Start by single crocheting around the hair tie.

Now, place as many single crochets around the hair tie as you possibly can. I even squish the SCs together to fit more around the hair tie. The more SCs you get around the hair tie, the less you will see the hair tie in the finished project. For the hair ties that I purchase, I usually fit 80 SCs around the tie. Your hair tie may fit more or less. The key here is to squeeze as many SCs into the hair tie as possible.
