Free & Easy Crochet Ear Warmer Pattern – The Sweetgrass
Yum

I love crochet ear warmers (or crochet headbands), so I decided to create another free & easy crochet ear warmer pattern. They are a great way to stay warm when the weather gets cold and they have the bonus of being able to use with a pony tail or messy bun! The Sweetgrass Ear Warmer is a wider headband which is great for keeping the winter chill at bay. I am giving you this free crochet ear warmer pattern in the adult size. If you would like to create this crochet headband in multiple sizes, check out the link to our Etsy store where you can pick up the PDF with instructions for multiple sizes! Let’s get crocheting!

Folding the Free and Easy Crochet Ear Warmer

Begin by cutting the crochet ear warmer free from the skein of yarn. Leave at least 12″ for a yarn tail.

Ready to fold the crochet headband

Fold both of the ends into the middle. The “nice” or right side of the headband should be facing the table when you go to fold in the ends.

Sewing the Crochet Headband

Sew the seam in the middle of the headband. I make sure that I get the 2 loops from the stitches on the one side and the 1 loop from the stitches on the other side.

How to sew the crochet ear warmer

Once the seam is sewn, I like to tie a double knot with the 2 yarn tails.

Finishing the Free & Easy Crochet Ear Warmer

To finish the crochet ear warmer, begin by folding the middle of the headband down.

creating the fold in the middle of the crochet headband

Next create another fold to the left of the middle fold. Make sure that the outside edge is folded down, not up (this helps the headband lay smoother on the head).

Repeat and create another fold on the right side of the crochet ear warmer. The crochet headband should be completely cinched in the middle now and ready to secure.

Securing the Crochet Headband Fold

Grab one of the yarn tails. Wrap it around the folded middle a couple of times. Hold in place with one hand.

Tying the crochet headband middle

Grab the other yarn tail and wrap it in the opposite direction (opposite from how the first tail was wrapped) a couple of times.

On the top (or right-side) of the headband tie a double knot.

Tie a knot to secure the middle of the free crochet headband

Repeat the wrapping process – wrap each tail in opposite directions around the middle. Leave long enough tails to tie a knot and weave in the ends.

What the front of the free crochet ear warmer should look like

Again, leave long enough tails to tie a double knot and then weave in the ends. Tie a double knot on the underside (wrong side) of the headband. Weave in the ends.
