My middle schoolers always make Rice Krispie Treats as their first recipe in class. The kids tell me that they are amazed at how easy and delicious these things are to make! Mix together a little Rice Krispie cereal, vanilla, and butter and bam…awesomeness. Hopefully you enjoy these as much as they do!

To begin, gather all of the ingredients that you need.

Ingredients:

2 Tbsp. unsalted butter, softened

4 Tbsp. (1/2 stick) unsalted butter

One 16 ounce package of large marshmallows

1 tsp. vanilla extract

6 cups Rice Krispies cereal

Optional sprinkles


Directions:

1.) Use the 2 Tbsp. melted (or softened) butter to grease a 9″ x 13″ baking dish.

2.) Place the marshmallows and 4 Tbsp. butter in a large pot on the stove.

3.) On medium-low heat, melt together the marshmallows, vanilla, and butter. Stir constantly. This mixture is ready once the shape of the marshmallows are no longer visible. We want a smooth cream in the pot. Add the vanilla extract and mix well. Turn off the heat to the pot.

4.) Add the 6 cups of Rice Krispie cereal. Stir well.

5.) Pour the cereal/marshmallow/butter/vanilla mixture into the prepared 9″ x 13″ baking dish.

6.) Press the mixture into the dish with the back of a spoon or spatula that has been covered with butter (this keeps the sticky mess from sticking to the spoon or spatula). Sprinkle with optional sprinkles.

7.) Let the mixture cool for at least 20 minutes, then enjoy!

Rice Krispie Treat Recipe

A sticky, buttery, sweet treat that is easy to make and absolutely yummy! These Rice Krispie Treats are sure to be a family favorite!

2 Tbsp. unsalted butter, softened (for greasing a 9″ x 13″ baking dish

4 Tbsp. unsalted butter

1 tsp. vanilla extract

6 cup Rice Krispies cereal

Instructions

Step One:

Use the 2 Tbsp. of melted (or softened butter) to grease a 9″ x 13″ baking dish.

Step Two:

Put the marshmallows and 4 Tbsp. butter in a large pot on the stove. Turn the stove onto medium-low heat and melt together the marshmallows and the butter.

Step Three:

Once the shapes of the marshmallows are no longer visible and you have a smooth cream, turn off the heat, and add 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Stir well.

Step Four:

Add the 6 cups of Rice Krispies cereal and stir well (make sure the cereal is completely coated with the marshmallow mixture).

Step Five:

Pour the Rice Krispie/marshmallow mixture into the prepared (greased) 9″ x 13″ baking dish.

Step Six:

With the back of a buttered spatula or large spoon, press the Rice Krispies into the pan. Sprinkle with optional sprinkles if you would like.

Step Seven:

Let cool for 20 minutes and enjoy!
